How egg donation works in New York
New York City and Brooklyn intended parents and egg donors work with Donor Nexus through two programs. In the Fresh Matching Program, a donor is matched with one family and completes her cycle at that family's IVF clinic, so intended parents in Manhattan, Brooklyn, or upstate can stay with their own clinic, and a New York donor matched with a family in the region can often cycle without a long trip. In the Frozen Egg Bank, donors complete their retrieval at our partner site in Newport Beach, California, and the frozen eggs ship to New York clinics once the clinic has a state waiver in place.

Donor eggs for New York City and Brooklyn intended parents
Families in Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, Long Island, and the rest of New York State can use donor eggs from Donor Nexus while continuing with their current New York fertility clinic and physician. You can choose any donor from our egg donor database of more than 500 profiles, wherever she lives. Through our Fresh Matching Program, we arrange your donor's travel so she can complete her cycle at your clinic, with her travel expenses included in the program pricing. Through our Frozen Egg Bank, eggs retrieved at our Newport Beach partner site ship directly to your clinic in New York once the state paperwork is in place. Each of our egg donor profiles lists where the donor lives and her background, so you can also search for Jewish, Asian, and other donors who reflect your family.
Fresh Matching Program fees start at $29,600, which covers donor compensation, travel, and agency, legal, and screening costs, and the total for a fresh match depends on the compensation your donor sets for herself, which our budget tiers lay out. A cohort of six eggs from our Frozen Egg Bank ranges from $19,500 to $29,500. You can compare our donor egg programs side by side, register for free to browse the donor database, or book a complimentary call with one of our case managers, who will answer your questions and help you work out which program fits your family.
Will my New York clinic accept frozen donor eggs?
Most New York clinics can accept them, with one extra step. Under the state's tissue bank rules in 10 NYCRR Part 52, a bank that distributes reproductive tissue in New York must hold a New York State Department of Health license or have a written exception from the Department, and the Department's importation policy for donor eggs explains how that works for out-of-state banks, so your clinic will likely need to request an exception, which most people call a waiver. We have shipped frozen donor eggs to New York many times, and our team works with your clinic on the paperwork so you know what to expect before you choose a cohort.
Does New York insurance cover donor eggs?
Coverage depends on the kind of plan you have. Since January 1, 2020, New York law has required fully insured large group plans (employers with more than 100 employees) to cover three cycles of IVF, while individual and small group plans must cover basic infertility treatment. The law does not spell out coverage for donor egg costs, donor compensation and agency fees usually fall outside what plans pay, and self-funded employer plans are not bound by the state rules, so ask your insurer or HR team exactly what your plan includes. Our guide to the cost of donor eggs walks through every fee, and our IVF grants page lists funding options many families use.
Is an egg donor a legal parent in New York?
An egg donor is generally not a legal parent in New York. Under the Child-Parent Security Act, in effect since February 15, 2021, Family Court Act §581-302 provides that a donor is not a parent of a child conceived through assisted reproduction where there is proof of donative intent, which is one reason the written donor agreement matters. Every Donor Nexus fresh match also includes legal agreements between the donor and intended parents, and those legal costs are part of the program fee. A reproductive attorney can explain how the law applies to your family's agreement.
How the Fresh Matching Program works for New York families
With fresh matching, your family is paired with one donor, who travels to your New York IVF clinic for her final monitoring and retrieval, and you receive every viable egg from that retrieval. Because a fresh cycle happens at your own New York clinic, the eggs are retrieved there and never ship from out of state, so the importation exception that applies to frozen eggs from an out-of-state bank generally does not come into play, though it is a good idea to confirm this with your clinic. Donor Nexus fresh cycles average 28.9 eggs retrieved and 22.6 mature eggs, and a fresh cycle usually takes four to six months from match to retrieval.
Frozen donor eggs shipped to New York
Frozen donor eggs are available in cohorts of six and ship from our Southern California egg bank in a Cryoport dry shipper with continuous temperature monitoring. Outside New York, most families have their eggs within four to six weeks of completed paperwork and payment; for a New York clinic, plan a little extra time for the state waiver. Each cohort comes with the blastocyst guarantee described on the Frozen Egg Bank page.

Become an egg donor in New York City
Women in Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, the Bronx, Staten Island, Long Island, and across New York ages 19 to 30 (exceptions considered for healthy applicants in their early 30s) with a BMI of 24.9 or under who don't smoke and are interested in donating eggs can apply online, and you can read more about how to become an egg donor with Donor Nexus before you start. Our egg donor requirements page explains each qualification and why it matters. Your screening labs and ultrasounds happen at a provider near you in New York, so travel is limited to the final days of your cycle. In the Fresh Matching Program you set your own compensation with guidance from our team and no cap, all of it goes directly to you, and travel, lodging, and a companion's costs are covered separately. Payment is held in escrow and released within five to seven days of retrieval.
Several of the women on our team donated through Donor Nexus themselves and are close in age to the donors they work with, which is a big part of why about 70% of our cycles come from repeat donors and referrals. If you don't have a companion for your retrieval, we can arrange a private nurse through our NurseRegistry partnership.
Egg banking for New York donors
Egg banking means donating to our Frozen Egg Bank instead of matching with one family. You complete your monitoring near home in New York and then travel to our partner site in Newport Beach, California for the retrieval, with flights and lodging covered, and your eggs are frozen for intended parents to select later. Banking compensation is more standardized than fresh matching and increases with each donation; our egg donation page lists current figures. Many donors complete both a banking cycle and a fresh cycle over time.
What New York donors ask us
Where do I go for monitoring? During stimulation you have early-morning ultrasounds and blood draws at a clinic near you in New York City or wherever you live in the state, and Donor Nexus arranges the referral.
How much time away will I need? A fresh-cycle retrieval trip usually runs five to seven days, while a donor living in the city who is matched with a New York City family can usually get to the final appointments by subway or car. Your case manager plans banking-cycle travel around your schedule.
Can I get paid to donate eggs in New York? New York egg donors are compensated for their time and the medical process, and in our Fresh Matching Program you set that amount yourself with guidance from our team.
Can I refer a friend? We hope you will, since our refer-a-friend program pays $1,000 once a donor you refer completes a retrieval, there is no limit on referrals, and you don't need to have donated yourself.

You can, and New York families who work with us keep their own clinic and physician. In our Fresh Matching Program, your donor travels to your IVF clinic for her retrieval, and her travel expenses are included in the program pricing. We have partnered with New York clinics including Kofinas Fertility Group in Brooklyn and CCRM New York, Columbia, and New Hope in Manhattan.
New York licenses reproductive tissue banks on its own, separate from federal FDA registration. Under 10 NYCRR Part 52, a bank that distributes reproductive tissue in New York needs a New York State Department of Health license or a written exception from the Department, and the Department's importation policy covers donor eggs coming from out-of-state banks. Your clinic usually requests the exception, which most people call a waiver, and our team supplies the donor screening and bank documentation it needs.
It depends on the program you choose and, for a fresh match, on the compensation your donor sets for herself. Fresh Matching Program fees start at $29,600, and our Core, Select and Signature budget tiers show how the total changes as donor compensation goes up. A Frozen Egg Bank cohort of six eggs ranges from $19,500 to $29,500, and you'll get a detailed estimate before you confirm a match. Your New York clinic bills its own IVF, embryo transfer, and medication costs separately, and our financial breakdown page lists every line item.
