How egg donation works in Massachusetts

Donor Nexus offers Boston and Massachusetts intended parents and egg donors two programs. When a donor joins the Fresh Matching Program, she is matched with a single family and completes her cycle at that family's IVF clinic, so a Massachusetts donor whose matched family lives nearby can often cycle close to home. Donors in the Frozen Egg Bank have their retrieval at our partner site in Newport Beach, California, after which the frozen eggs ship directly to clinics in Boston and throughout the United States, usually within four to six weeks. Our intended parent team and our donor team keep in contact with your clinic and with each other throughout either program.

Donor eggs for Boston and Massachusetts intended parents

Families in Greater Boston and across Massachusetts can use donor eggs from Donor Nexus without changing doctors. You keep your Massachusetts fertility clinic and physician, and you can choose any donor from our egg donor database of more than 500 profiles, wherever she lives. Through our Fresh Matching Program, we arrange your donor's travel so she can complete her cycle at your clinic, with her travel expenses included in the program pricing. Through our Frozen Egg Bank, eggs retrieved at our Newport Beach partner site ship directly to your clinic in Massachusetts. Each of our egg donor profiles lists where the donor lives, so you can look for a donor from New England if that matters to your family.

Fresh Matching Program fees start at $29,600, which covers donor compensation, travel, and agency, legal, and screening costs, and the total for a fresh match depends on the compensation your donor sets for herself, which our budget tiers lay out. A cohort of six eggs from our Frozen Egg Bank ranges from $19,500 to $29,500. You can compare our donor egg programs side by side, register for free to browse the donor database, or book a complimentary call with one of our case managers, who will answer your questions and help you work out which program fits your family.

Does Massachusetts insurance cover donor eggs?

Massachusetts has had an infertility insurance mandate in effect since 1987. Under M.G.L. c.175 §47H, fully insured plans that cover pregnancy benefits must also cover infertility treatment, including IVF, and the state's infertility benefit regulations (211 CMR 37.00) include egg procurement and processing to the extent the donor's own insurance does not pay. Donor compensation and agency fees usually fall outside what plans pay, and self-funded employer plans are not bound by the state mandate, so ask your insurer or HR team exactly what your plan includes. Our full egg donor cost breakdown walks through every fee.

Is an egg donor a legal parent in Massachusetts?

Under the Massachusetts Parentage Act, which took effect on January 1, 2025, a gamete donor is not a parent of a child conceived through assisted reproduction. Every Donor Nexus fresh match also includes legal agreements between the donor and intended parents, and those legal costs are part of the program fee.

Fresh Matching Program cycles at Boston-area clinics

A fresh cycle pairs your family with one donor, who travels to your Boston-area IVF clinic for her final monitoring and retrieval, and every viable egg from that retrieval is yours. Donor Nexus fresh cycles average 28.9 eggs retrieved and 22.6 mature eggs. A fresh cycle usually takes four to six months from match to retrieval, with most of that time spent on the donor's medical, genetic, and psychological screening.

Frozen donor eggs shipped to Boston

Frozen donor eggs are available in cohorts of six and ship from our Southern California egg bank directly to your Massachusetts clinic, usually within four to six weeks of completed paperwork and payment. Each cohort comes with the blastocyst guarantee described on the Frozen Egg Bank page, and every shipment travels in a Cryoport dry shipper with continuous temperature monitoring from our lab to yours.

Will my Boston clinic accept frozen donor eggs?

Most licensed IVF clinics accept frozen donor eggs from an FDA-registered egg bank, and our team confirms the details with your clinic before anything ships, including their lab's warming protocol and any paperwork they need from us.

Our donors live across the U.S. and abroad, and because they travel to your clinic for a fresh cycle or their frozen eggs ship to it, where you live does not limit who you can choose. Become an egg donor in Massachusetts

Women in Boston, Cambridge, Worcester, and across Massachusetts ages 19 to 30 (exceptions considered for healthy applicants in their early 30s) with a BMI of 24.9 or under who don't smoke can apply online, and you can read more about how to become an egg donor with Donor Nexus before you start. Our egg donor requirements page explains each qualification and why it matters. Your screening labs and ultrasounds happen at a provider near you in Massachusetts, so travel is limited to the final days of your cycle. In the Fresh Matching Program you set your own compensation with guidance from our team and no cap, all of it goes directly to you, and travel, lodging, and a companion's costs are covered separately. Payment is held in escrow and released within five to seven days of retrieval.

Our team is made up of women close in age to the donors we work with, and many of them have donated through Donor Nexus themselves, which is a big part of why about 70% of our cycles come from repeat donors and referrals. If you don't have a companion for your retrieval, we can arrange a private nurse through our NurseRegistry partnership.

Egg banking for Massachusetts donors

Egg banking means donating eggs to our Frozen Egg Bank instead of matching with one family. You complete your monitoring near home in Massachusetts and then travel to our partner site in Newport Beach, California for the retrieval, with flights and lodging covered, and your eggs are frozen for intended parents to select later. Banking compensation is more standardized than fresh matching and increases with each donation; our egg donation page lists current figures. Many donors complete both a banking cycle and a fresh cycle over time.

What Boston donors ask us

  • Where do I go for monitoring? During stimulation you have early-morning ultrasounds and blood draws at a clinic near you in the Boston area or elsewhere in Massachusetts, and Donor Nexus arranges the referral.

  • How much time away will I need? A fresh-cycle retrieval trip usually runs five to seven days, though a match with a family whose clinic is in the Boston area can shorten that to a few local appointments. Your case manager plans banking-cycle travel around your schedule.

  • Can I donate while I'm in college or grad school? Many students donate, often cycling during a semester break or a lighter stretch of classes, and your case manager helps you choose dates that fit.

  • Can I refer a friend? Absolutely, and our refer-a-friend program pays $1,000 once a donor you refer completes a retrieval, there is no limit on referrals, and you don't need to have donated yourself.

Egg donation in Massachusetts: frequently asked questions

These are the questions we hear most often from Boston and Massachusetts intended parents and egg donors. For program details and pricing, visit our donor egg programs page, or if you are thinking about donating, start with how egg donation works.

You can, and you stay with your own Boston or Massachusetts clinic and physician the whole time. In our Fresh Matching Program, your donor travels to your IVF clinic for her retrieval, and her travel expenses are included in the program pricing. In our Frozen Egg Bank, the eggs ship directly to your clinic in a temperature-monitored dry shipper. We work with any licensed IVF clinic that accepts outside donor eggs, including Massachusetts clinics we have partnered with before, such as Boston IVF, Fertility Centers of New England, and Brigham and Women's.

Many Massachusetts families have at least partial coverage, because under M.G.L. c.175 §47H, in effect since 1987, fully insured plans that cover pregnancy benefits must also cover infertility treatment, including IVF, and the state's infertility benefit regulations (211 CMR 37.00) include egg procurement and processing to the extent the donor's own insurance does not pay. Donor compensation and agency fees usually fall outside what plans pay, and self-funded employer plans are not bound by the state mandate, so confirm the details with your insurer.

It depends on the program you choose and, for a fresh match, on the compensation your donor sets for herself. Fresh Matching Program fees start at $29,600, and our Core, Select and Signature budget tiers show how the total changes as donor compensation goes up. A Frozen Egg Bank cohort of six eggs ranges from $19,500 to $29,500, and you'll get a detailed estimate before you confirm a match. Your Massachusetts clinic bills its own IVF, embryo transfer, and medication costs separately, and our financial breakdown page lists every line item.

In the Donor Nexus Fresh Matching Program you set your own compensation with guidance from our team, there is no cap, and all of it goes directly to you. Frozen Egg Bank compensation is standardized and increases with each donation. Travel, lodging, and a companion's costs are covered separately, and payment is released within five to seven days of retrieval. Current figures are listed on our Become an Egg Donor page.

Women ages 19 to 30 who have a BMI of 24.9 or under and don't smoke can apply, and we consider healthy applicants in their early 30s case by case. Every donor completes medical, genetic, and psychological screening before she is matched or begins a banking cycle, and your screening labs and ultrasounds happen at a provider near you in Massachusetts.

A donor is not a legal parent in Massachusetts. The Massachusetts Parentage Act, effective January 1, 2025, provides that a person who donates sperm or eggs for assisted reproduction is not a parent of the resulting child. Alongside the statute, each Donor Nexus fresh match includes legal agreements between the donor and the intended parents, with those legal costs built into the program fee.
