Before we jump into the financial side of things, it's important to understand that the process of embryo donation and embryo adoption are quite different. Although both share the foundational similarity of using donated embryos in hopes of achieving a pregnancy, embryo adoption views the embryo(s) as a child, requiring the recipients to go through a lengthy process similar to traditional adoption. Alternatively, embryo donation views the embryo(s) as a gift being donated, with the recipients simply accepting ownership.

The average cost of embryo adoption is around $18,850. Here is a breakdown of the embryo adoption costs:

• Application fee: ~ $600 USD
• Program fee: ~ $8,500 USD
• Home study fee: ~ $2,000 - $3,500 USD
• Clinic fees, including FET: ~ $4,000 - $10,000 (may or may not include cycle medications)

With a few more steps involved and the additional complexities of "adopting" an embryo, it's safe to assume that the overall cost of embryo adoption will be higher than embryo donation.
